President Rodrigo Duterte said he is willing to forego the eligibility requirements for government officials as long as they are competent and honest.
“Kung sino lang man ang pumasok sa isip ko na tutal ang hinihingi ko lang naman sa gobyerno ganito if you want to work during my term, you are competent and you are honest, period,” he said Tuesday in a speech during the awarding of housing units to Scout Rangers in San Miguel, Bulacan.
“Wala na eligibility-eligibility. I am not trying to degrade the qualification, the level of qualification pero bigyan mo lang ako ‘yung honest person tapos ‘yung hindi corrupt,” he added.
The President has axed several government officials over allegations of corruption.
The latest to be fired was former Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council Secretary-General Falconi Millar, who was accused of extorting money from a contractor.
In a bid to rid the government of erring public officials, he had signed in Oct. 2017 an executive order creating the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission. – with report from Vivienne Gulla, ABS-CBN News
