SINGAPORE—A new “Magic Temple” film is in the works, more than two decades since the iconic fantasy adventure premiered in 1996.

ABS-CBN Films is developing the project with Singapore-based production company Cre8 Productions, one of the first fruits of the deal the two companies signed earlier this week.

Mikhail Red (“Birdshot) is directing the new movie.

The plan is for it to act as the first of a series, allowing fans to see the characters grow similar to those in the “Harry Potter” and “Lord of the Rings” franchises.

Other details are thin on the ground, including whether or not any of the movie’s original stars will take part. An initial cast list, along with a targeted premiere date, was not revealed.

“Magic Temple” was first released in 1996. It was part of that year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, where it was named Best Picture. It told the story of 3 teenage boys on a quest to defeat an evil magical force.
