MANILA — President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Davao City Rep. Karlo Nograles as Secretary to the Cabinet, Malacañang said Monday.
Nograles, who will take his oath of office on Monday, will replace Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr, who resigned to run for governor of Bohol, said Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo.
Asked why Nograles was picked by the President, Panelo said the lawmaker “enjoys the trust and confidence of the appointing power.”
Panelo confirmed Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra’s earlier pronouncement that Nograles would soon become Cabinet Secretary.
Nograles had initially considered running for Senate but dropped his plans before the official filing of candidacies.
He is on his third and last term at the House of Representatives and his position is being eyed by the President’s son, former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte.
