It would be “difficult” to defer the proclamation of winners in the midterm national races based on speculations of fraud, the spokesperson of the Commission on Elections said Thursday.
The social action arm of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines said the proclamation of winning senators should be suspended until the alleged manipulation of the automated canvassing is investigated.
“Ang personal opinion ko po d’yan medyo mahirap po iyan dahil lahat ng third party [observers]… sinasabing walang naging problema,” said Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez.
(My personal opinion there is that it would be difficult to do because all third party observers are saying there was no problem.)
“To halt the proclamation on the basis of speculation, hindi ko lang masabi kung (I can’t say if) that would be the best thing to do,” he added.
The issue “would be up to the en banc,” said Jimenez.
During Monday’s election, Comelec faced criticism over the delay of real-time election results to its media partners, which the poll body attributed to an application error in the transparency server.
A Senate inquiry will look into the election glitches on June 3.
