Elvira “Tootsy” Echauz-Angara, wife of reelectionist Sen. Sonny Angara, led the event organized by the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
About 500 women from different barangays in the city, different national line agencies, non-government organizations and other civil society organizations attended the event held at the President Fidel V. Ramos (PFVR) Gymnasium.
In her speech, Angara paid tribute to her mother, Nora Linda Mondoñedo.
“It was Baguio that gave her a sense of community…I was raised by a strong woman and many don’t know that it is here in Baguio where she found her strength,” Angara said.
Addressing the crowd, Angara said: “I feel deeply humbled to be surrounded by so many accomplished, outstanding women who have done nothing but create positive changes in our world.”
During the event, female high school students who participated and won in the on-the-spot poster-making contest were also recognized on stage. /jpv
